Ingredients

Apple filling

  • 6 x medium-sized apples – peeled, cored, and diced
  • ¼ cup caster sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Crumble

  • 1.5 cups plain flour
  • 1.25 cups light brown sugar
  • 1 cup oats
  • ¾ cup melted dairy-free butter
  • 1.5 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp baking powder

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C
  2. Peel, core, and dice the apples into small chunks, about 1cm in size.
  3. Spread the diced apples in a baking dish (approximately 2 litres or smaller in size)
  4. Cover the apples with the caster sugar and cinnamon and toss to coat the apples thoroughly.
Spread the apples evenly in the baking dish and set aside to prepare the crumble.
  5. In a medium to large mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients for the crumble and mix well. The most effective way to do this is by using your hands. However, you can use a spatula or wooden spoon if you’re reluctant to use your hands.
  6. Once everything is well combined, sprinkle the crumble mix evenly over the apples in the baking dish.
  7. Place the baking dish in the centre of the oven to ensure your crumble gets evenly distributed heat and circulation. Bake for 30 minutes until golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced.
  8. Once it’s fully baked, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool.
  9. It can be served warm with a plant-based custard, ice cream, or on its own.

NOTES

Once you’ve baked your apple crumble and it’s cool, you can safely store it in a sealed container in the fridge for 3 days. However, if you want it to stay longer, ensure it cools down completely, then freeze it in a sealed container for up to 2 months.
